There were times when madness coursed through her veins and fleeting light shone in her eyes. Louise Bourgeois

25 December 1911 – 31 May 2010

Bourgeois was a an amazing artists who's work touched on themes of the human body, feminism, loneliness, sexuality, fear, anxiety and so much more. Her work has really moved me and inspired me since I first saw her work at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

She was 98 years old. She completed her most recent work just one week before she died of a heart attack. What a woman!

It was one of my dreams to meet her. I'm so sad that won't happen now, but I will hold her up forever!

So I have an installation in the bathroom at Transformer Gallery (I'm so in love with them, I know!) and Maria Flores from Honest Magazine peed in there once I guess, or maybe she was just washing her hands, but apparently she liked what she saw and wrote about it (well, mentioned it in brief) in her fine publication. GREETINGS!
I will participate in a Flat File show at Transformer Gallery in Washington DC That opens December 15th. I'll be at the opening of course, and some of the works featured in the show will be from The Modern Prometheus series. This on going series includes works on paper based on common themes in Mary Shelley's story, Frankenstein and my own life. Cheesey huh? Come check them out!

Transformer's next exhibition, wall/paper, featuring selections from our Flat File Program, opens with a public reception Saturday, December 15, 7-9pm.

Launched in spring 2007, Transformer's Flat File consists of unframed works in a variety of two-dimensional mediums including photography, painting, drawing, and printmaking, all approximately 16" x 20" in size and smaller. Featuring works by regionally, nationally and internationally based emerging artists, the program is open to artists that have exhibited with Transformer in the past and those who are new to Transformer.

wall/paper will feature selections from the current Flat File, as well as new work by April Behnke, Miles Bumbray, Jennifer DePalma, Benjamin Jurgenson, Andy Kozlowski, and Lauren Vincelli. Please check back soon for exhibition updates.

Update!

The auction benefiting Transformer Gallery was lots of fun. I sold both pieces and there was some other really excellent art there. I got to meet lots of intersting people there and Transformer raised lots of money to help fund and fuel their programming. There were excellent DJs and pretty good snacks there too; I love a good Tuna Tar-Tar. HAR HAR!

That weekend in DC, we stayed at a crazy hotel with techno playing in the lobby and Pop Rocks and Wax Lips in the mini-bar. I also saw lots of cute dogs, great houses, a roof top garden and someone fall into a pool, which I thought only happened in movies. Did you know it happens in real life also? The morning after the auction I ate crepes with my family and friends. listened to Sean Lennon and some old Mix Tapes in the car on the way home. I digress...

In Other News: I will have some work in Transformer's upcoming Flat File Show. So save your rupees and pesos and rials and yen and euros and dollars and then head over to Transformer and check it out! I'll post more details when I know more.
